I'll admit it - after 40 years behind film & digital cameras of all flavors, I'm a better photographer today than I was a month ago.
Didn't buy anything new, didn't find some magic YouTuber that showed me the light, didn't start shooting only RAW.. no investment other than time and intention.
I recently completed 2 personal projects (pro tip - do one at a time. Simultaneous projects are no bueno) that forced focus and intentionality. They made me focus on not just the image but the 1000 words that go along with the image. Made me look at and feel the scene before I tripped the shutter. Made prints for display. Looked deep into a 5,000+ image archive to find a few dozen stories.
It was harder than I imagined, but the rewards are great. Upgrading to the latest body or a new lens, or large format, or any other gear-centered move would not have paid the same dividends. Go try it. You won't be sorry. ✌️
