CTA 3 EXTENSION
After our last reminder, we had people reaching out to request a deadline extension. It’s the holidays and some want to wait until they pass to see if they took anything that they’d like to submit. With that in mind, we’ve decided to extend the due date from December 1st to JANUARY 5TH. Y’all got an extra month, so make use of it and take some dope photos!!
There are always new features to chase, but if your camera is less than 5 years old, a new one *probably isn't going to make you better. But it *will lighten your bank account.

Your "new" film camera might be pushing 40 years old. They're tough, and most still work well. Light leaks, though, can be a problem. Light seals are a simple DIY repair, but if you're not comfortable doing it, bring your camera in; if you need cleaning, CLA, or repair on your film gear let us take care of you!

CTA 3 ANNOUNCEMENT!
The theme for the upcoming issue of Crown Town Analog will be slow speed film only! Now, we define slow film as anything 100 or lower, but from running a film lab for the last two years we know that a lot of tall don’t like shooting that slow. Maybe y’all are too afraid to shoot that slow? But being the generous men that we are, we’ve amended that to be 200 or slower.
That’s it! The only requirements for the next issue is that the photo was shot on film and that film is 200 speed or lower. The subject matter, color v b&w, etc. are entirely up to y’all. We love slow film and hopefully this issue will help y’all fall in love with it too.
Link to the submission form is in our bio!
You all know we're going to help grow and support the creative community, especially photographers. That's why we are hosting an info session on Culture Blocks next week, here at the store.
You'll learn about the goals of the program as well as how and when to apply (deadline is October 21st so don't sit on the couch - DO THIS!) We'll have a representative from @asccharlotte here to answer all the questions you have! It's free - RSVP below
Put it on the calendar:
Thursday October 10th
6:30pm

IT’S @mrlo__ TIME! So excited to announce that our next gallery show is going to be with Jalen Marlowe, an incredible photographer and one of the very first Friends of the Outfitters! Marlowe’s talent blows us away each and every time, so we’re freakin’ out about this show, and y’all should be too.

We've got a nice batch of used Nikon F-mount goodies that were just consigned looking for a new home:
Old school 60mm micro: Fits any F-mount film or digital DSLR. Screw drive AF WILL NOT work with FTZ for mirrorless Nikon.
TC 14EIII: 1.4X converter for F mount. It's an AF-S lens which means it does work with the FTZ and compatible lenses (mostly tele exotics)
105 Micro: one of my all time favorite lenses. Crazy sharp & VR. AF-S means the FTZ works if you want to use it on a mirrorless body.
D810 body: Classic 2nd generation DSLR that is still a great machine. Approx 65,000 clicks.
500f/5.6 PF: Everything you want in a Telephoto - lightweight, fast, sharp - without breaking the bank.
Everything except the 60mm includes case, caps, hood, box and IB and is in like new condition. If you're interested or have questions - hit us up 👇or stop by.

All good things must end... And the show closes next Wednesday.
It's been a terrific creative experience and I'm both humbled and thankful for the visits you guys have made.
Since we have another #cubaphotoadventure in the works for 2025 I've decided to sell the framed prints and use part of the proceeds to support our hosts next year.
Fwiw we travel under the Support of the Cuban People license, which means spending our money with privately owned restaurants, drivers, guides, and lodging. Additional support comes from our gifts of simple things not easily or readily available in Cuba. Your purchase will help fund those gifts.
Thanks again for your support of my work and The Photo Outfitters. Much ♥️ to all of the Outfitters family!

NEW GALLERY TIME!!!
Very excited to announce our next gallery show with Nicole Driscoll (@nicoledfilms ) on September 5th! Nicole is an incredibly talented photographer with a very interesting approach to the art form, so we’re bursting at the seams to see what she does with the space! We hope to see everyone there!
I'll admit it - after 40 years behind film & digital cameras of all flavors, I'm a better photographer today than I was a month ago.
Didn't buy anything new, didn't find some magic YouTuber that showed me the light, didn't start shooting only RAW.. no investment other than time and intention.
I recently completed 2 personal projects (pro tip - do one at a time. Simultaneous projects are no bueno) that forced focus and intentionality. They made me focus on not just the image but the 1000 words that go along with the image. Made me look at and feel the scene before I tripped the shutter. Made prints for display. Looked deep into a 5,000+ image archive to find a few dozen stories.
It was harder than I imagined, but the rewards are great. Upgrading to the latest body or a new lens, or large format, or any other gear-centered move would not have paid the same dividends. Go try it. You won't be sorry. ✌️

An update on the 1-1-1 project...
1 camera: Nikon F100
1 lens: Nikkor 24-85 VR
1 film: Queen City XX
A really transformative experience. Limiting to 1 lens really made "seeing" the shot a more involved process. I was tuned into details and texture than normal.
Experiment - I played more with shutter speeds and panning (streetcar) than I regularly do. The get out of your head exercise comes from not knowing what you're going to get.
I saw things I wouldn't normally look for and shoot, like the carrots and the F*ck Your Tesla...and a reaI, working, pay phone in East Oakland. I found myself more in tune and connected to my surroundings.
For me this film's strongest feature is versatility. It looks great at any ISO from 100 and up... It edits beautifully and it's easy to create different looks without fear of wrecking the underlying image.

TONY’S GALLERY!!!
So pumped to finally announce that our next gallery show (Aug 15) will be Tony’s show!!!! Super excited because Tony has decided to show off a sample of his wealth of photos of Cuba (the people, the country, the culture) in order to nurture deeper conversations about our relationship with the country and the situation for the Cuban people. We hope to make a show that is more thought provoking and just as much about the experience as the photos. BE THERE!!!!
The goal of the 1camera/1lens/1film project was to re-learn how to see and connect with my subject. It's not about a quick grab shot but connecting to the subject by watching, listening, and engaging. Paying closer attention to composition, light, and shadow. It was inspired by the book "The Traveling Photographers Manifesto" by David Hobby. 10/10 recommended reading.
Learned a few things in the process of shooting:
Street photography with film is tough - you've got nothing to share with your subject. Next time we go with digital and a prime.
Walking with no agenda is amazing Sitting on a bench and watching dogs play or listening to the wind blowing through the rigging on a sailboat. The secret snippets of conversation when people walk by. Graffiti. The smell of a farmer's market as they unpack and set up.
I've got no idea how this film or project is going to turn out. Right now I'm stuck in the airport sitting through an interminable flight delay. But I'm excited to develop this stuff when I get home.
All these shots: Pixel 7 + Snapseed The 1/1/1 project was shot with a Nikon F100, 24-85 lens and QCxx film. Images coming soon.
#queencityxx #nikonf100 #1camera1lens1film #filmphotography #filmdeveloping #believeinfilm #shootfilm #blackandwhitephotography #filmaintdead
One of the things to love about this film is versatility. Playing with speed to see where my personal sweet spot is. Planning to shoot the next few at 64 or 100 and see how it looks.
Today was pretty much a zero day but we'll make up for it.

PENTAX 17
I’ve had this shockingly controversial camera for a few weeks now and I've been able to put a few rolls through it, so I figured I'd share my personal thoughts. It has its noticeable quirks, but overall I really like the camera. It is definitely not for everyone, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with it and look forward to using it more in the future.

Super excited to announce that our next gallery show will be with our good friend Nichole Pequeño @outside.ink on July 18 from 6-8. Cannot wait to see what she will roll out, but we know it’ll be good so don't miss it!! Let's show some love for Nichole and the whole photography community!
Recent additions to the used case need a spot in your bag
Minolta x700 - Classic film body from the 80s. We have 2 on hand. Both tested and ready to go.
Mamiya RB67 - The King. Iykyk
Nikon D5600 - 24MP DSLR w swivel screen, touch controls and easy wifi transfer.
Pentax 110 - Fun, bite-sized film SLR system. It's barely a handful!
#usedcameras #value #filmphotography #digitalphotography
Your film has a serious allergy to Xrays. If you're flying this summer, throw one of these in your bag (we've got them for you free for the asking) and nicely ask the TSA staff for a Hand Check. Works wonders, except (apparently) in the UK.
And when you hit the beach, remember that film hates heat even more than you do. Cracking a window won't help - keep it cool.
JUNE 20 6-8
It’s new gallery show time!!! Couldn’t be happier to share that our next gallery show will be with our dear friend Camille Hughes!! The Photo Outfitters might be a totally different store without her. So turn out and celebrate Camille with us!
We've got plans and need space, and so we're getting rid of the last of the seamless backdrop paper we have:

ZINE UPDATE!!!
We are changing Crown Town Analog from bimonthly to once a quarter. This will give us more time with each issue to make sure the quality is where we want it to be. This also means that the Travel Issue submission deadline has changed from June 1st to July 1st, so there's still plenty of time to submit. Can't wait to show off y’all’s incredible work!
Our next solo photography show - coming to the Outfitters Gallery (we need a name for the space, y'all)
George Williams aka @rollingwithwills will be presenting "The Gemini Smile"
